A creative challenge for young people aged 11–16
In May, 57 local residents were selected to represent Nottingham at the Climate Assembly. The community-led recommendations from that process have now been compiled into a final manifesto, which will be presented directly to Nottingham City Council on 26th Aug.
While the next Youth Assembly is being prepared, we are taking immediate action with a project designed to be creative, engaging, and educational for young people.
We are pleased to launch the Nottingham Green Space Minecraft Competition.
Young people aged 11-16 are invited to research real-world climate solutions and design their vision of a greener Nottingham inside Minecraft.
What is a “Green Space”?
A green space is not limited to trees and flowers. It can include clean energy solutions, sustainable transport hubs, community gardens, eco-friendly buildings, rewilded areas, flood prevention systems, and other innovative approaches to climate resilience. Participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from news articles and real climate initiatives, then adapt those ideas into their Minecraft world.
How entries will be judged:
Technical building skill is not the focus. Entries will be assessed on:
Research: the range and quality of climate ideas gathered from real sources
Adaptation: how thoughtfully those ideas have been translated into the Minecraft design
Prize:
National Ice Centre Family Pass (Family of 4 – Public Skating sessions, value £46), and
£20 gift voucher
How to enter:
Research climate solutions and green space ideas online
Build your design in Minecraft
Submit a short description (including references to your research sources) and a maximum of 10 screenshots via the entry form
Entry form: https://forms.gle/SkZ8DgPVSz6FZoyr8
Submission deadline: Wednesday 26 August 2026
Share your ideas
All participants will be invited to record a short video reflecting on their build and their views on climate change. Faceless videos are welcome. Participants (with parent/guardian consent) may choose to share their video on their own social media or have it featured on our channels.
We encourage parents, teachers, and community members to share this opportunity with young people who enjoy Minecraft or care about the environment.
Together, we can help the next generation explore climate solutions in a creative and meaningful way.
Parents Wellbeing Walk (Aug) – Family Edition
As the summer holidays come to an end, we warmly invite parents and their children to join us for a special Family Wellbeing Walk.
We will begin with a gentle walk from Victoria Park, then continue to Stonebridge City Farm, where families can enjoy exploring the animals and outdoor space. Entry to the farm is free, and we encourage participants to support them with a voluntary donation if they wish.
This is a relaxed and family-friendly morning designed for parents and children to enjoy time outdoors together, connect with nature, and create positive memories. Every family will receive a small souvenir as a keepsake of the day.
